Grand Master Hsin Tao Presides over Great Upasampada Ordination at LJM Maha Kusala Yama Monastery to Transmit the True Dharma and Pray for Peace

At a time of global turmoil, when hearts yearn for peace and spiritual refuge, Grand Master Hsin Tao, the founding abbot of Ling Jiou Mountain (LJM)—recently honored with Myanmar’s "National Highest Achievement Award in Education"—presided over the Sacred Upasampada Ordination for six samaneras from the Naung Mon Maha Kusala Yama Monastery. Held on March 6th at a Sima (ordination) hall in the Bahan Township of Yangon, this rigorous ritual of conferring full precepts serves as a steadying stream of purity for our turbulent era. Through this sacred act, the Master prayed for social harmony and the long-lasting presence of the Right Dharma.

Honoring the Support of Elders and Parents: A Shared Commitment to Social Stability and Harmony

Early that morning, Ven. Bhaddanta Dr. Kumara, Rector of the State Pariyatti Sasana University, Yangon, and Elder Mogok Sayadaw of the Bahan Township, among others, attended the ceremony to confer the Great Upasampada Ordination upon the six samaneras. Grand Master Hsin Tao expressed his profound gratitude to the Myanmar Sangha, the elders, and the assembly of monks for their collective efforts in making this auspicious ceremony possible. He emphasized that it is through the noble support and protection of the elders that the newly ordained monks are able to inherit and propagate the True Dharma. The Master sincerely hoped that the elders would continue to mentor and nurture these new Bhikkhus with compassion, enabling their monastic lives to contribute even more to the eternal abidance of the True Dharma.

In his address, Grand Master Hsin Tao stated that through the practice of the Threefold Training—Precepts, Concentration, and Wisdom—Bhikkhus guide all sentient beings toward liberation from suffering and the realization of ultimate happiness. He expressed his earnest hope that the newly ordained monks would uphold the lineage of the Buddha's True Dharma and ensure its continuity through the power of their vows. He further reminded them that monastics serve as the guiding eyes and ears for both humans and celestial beings; as such, they bear a profound responsibility to benefit all realms through the Dharma, inspiring both humans and devas to strengthen their aspiration and compassion to serve even more beings.

On this day, many parents traveled from as far as Shan State to support their children’s entry into the monastic life. Grand Master Hsin Tao praised these parents for their noble acts of right mindfulness, describing them as the driving force for the enduring presence of the Dharma. At the same time, the Master expressed his gratitude to the devout merit-making donors for their support, which allows the Sangha to focus wholeheartedly on their spiritual cultivation, together fostering the stability and harmony of the nation and society.

From the Offering of Requisites to the Reception of the Essence of the Precepts: Sustaining the Lineage of the Sangha

The Sacred Upasampada Ceremony strictly adheres to the traditions of the Pali Vinaya Pitaka. The ritual commences with the offering of monastic requisites, during which members of the Sangha present the robes and alms bowls to the ordinands. This symbolic act marks the formal transmission of the spiritual legacy, preparing them to receive the essence of the precepts and undertake their sacred mission within the monastic community.

In the presence of more than 20 highly respected monastic elders, the ordinands received the Great Ordination amidst solemn Pali chanting, internalizing the essence of the precepts to officially become Bhikkhus. The ceremony was open to the public, allowing devotees to listen to the Dharma and immerse themselves in the teachings, embodying the auspiciousness and Dharma joy found in the continuation of the Sangha’s lineage.

Water-Dripping Ritual for Merits: Uniting Virtuous Aspirations for the Enlightenment of All Beings

The Sacred Upasampada Ceremony concluded gracefully with the Water-Dripping Ritual, a dedication of merit to share and bestow virtuous deeds. Led by the elders, the assembly united in chanting the Metta Sutta. Following the ceremony, both the monastics and the lay community joined together to offer essential supplies and monastic requisites to the newly ordained Bhikkhus.

Venerable Heng Ming, Deputy Dean of the LJM Maha Kusala Yama Monastery Sramanena Orphan School, shared that the cultivation of monastic talent is a crucial cornerstone for a stable society. The entire ceremony concluded in a solemn atmosphere as everyone chanted together, "May the True Dharma abide eternally." All accumulated merits were dedicated to the ultimate enlightenment of all sentient beings, coupled with a profound aspiration for global ecological harmony and world peace.
