LJM Charity Foundation Deepens Efforts in Myanmar, Partners with Chang Gung Memorial Hospital to Launch Medical Training

Charity Knows No Borders! The Ling Jiou Mountain (LJM) Charity Foundation joined hands with Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital for a four-day intensive medical capacity-building training program in Yangon, Myanmar, at the end of October. Through this international medical exchange, Taiwanese medical teams and Myanmar doctors engaged in mutual learning and collaboration. Their shared dedication to improving local healthcare service quality is truly admirable.

The LJM Charity Foundation stated that, guided by the compassionate spirit of LJM Founding Abbot Venerable Hsin Tao, who advocates for the welfare and mutual coexistence of all, it has been providing spiritual care and support both domestically and abroad, along with disaster relief. Over the years, the foundation has continued to promote medical outreach, healthcare services, and other support in the Venerable's hometown in Myanmar. This year, the foundation has expanded its efforts into the field of physician training, collaborating with several top medical institutions in Taiwan, with the goal of cultivating more outstanding doctors locally to safeguard the health of residents.

Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Assists in Training to Enhance Ultrasound Skills in Myanmar

In the first half of this year, the LJM Charity Foundation invited Myanmar doctors to Taiwan for training. This time, a team from Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, led by Dr. Chen Wei-Ting, Director of the Ultrasound Examination Center, and Dr. Hsu Chin-Jie, an attending obstetrician and gynecologist, along with two other specialists, assisted the foundation's Myanmar partners—Myanmar Liver Foundation (MLF), Nae Thit Kyan Mar Clinic, and Tan Sitt Charity Clinic—in providing hands-on training during medical consultations. The training included ultrasound operation demonstrations, disease analysis, and case-based teaching, injecting new energy into local healthcare services.

In addition to clinic training, the team also used the office of the international NGO "Community Partners International" (CPI) to conduct teaching and discussions on the application of ultrasound examinations in diagnosis and treatment. Myanmar medical institutions expressed a desire to continue arranging such educational exchanges to enhance local diagnostic capabilities for liver and biliary diseases. They look forward to creating a new milestone in Taiwan-Myanmar medical cooperation.

Taiwanese Doctors Share Prenatal Care Experience to Safeguard Maternal and Infant Health in Myanmar

The Chang Gung medical team expressed their willingness to continue teaching in Yangon and will also discuss future collaboration plans with local medical institutions to further improve Myanmar's healthcare standards and benefit local population. Dr. Hsu observed the prenatal care procedures at community clinics in the suburbs of Yangon and noticed that while the doctors conducted thorough consultations, they were only using basic stethoscopes to monitor fetal heartbeats. She demonstrated how to use an ultrasound machine to quickly check fetal position, placental location, and estimate fetal weight. She believes that the lack of ultrasound examinations in local prenatal care could lead to serious risks, such as undiagnosed placenta previa. She encouraged local clinics to increase the frequency of proteinuria tests to prevent preeclampsia and hopes that through experience sharing, maternal and infant risks can be effectively reduced.

"This training not only enriched our professional knowledge but also deeply touched our hearts." Dr. Hnin Phyu Soe from the Myanmar Liver Foundation, Dr. Kaung Myat Sithu from Nae Thit Kyan Mar Clinic, and others expressed that this training enhanced their clinical skills and diagnostic accuracy. It was also a valuable learning experience. They sincerely thanked Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and the LJM Charity Foundation for their selfless dedication, which has inspired them to provide higher-quality medical services to patients. They also look forward to establishing a long-term collaborative relationship to promote the exchange of medical technologies.
