Conducted Meditation On “Silence Observation” and “ānāpāna sati”

1997, (At the age of 49)

  • In February, Master Hsin-tao went for retreat in Fa-Hua cave on Ling Jiou Mountain and in Myanmar for forty-five days.
     
  • In April, invited to participate in the British pilgrimage shrine and pray in local shrine, met with the Archbishop of Canterbury.
     
  • In May, visited Taiwan Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons); afterward led the disciples to Tibet for pilgrimage and visited His Holiness the Seventeenth Karmapa.
     
  • In June, conducted seven days Chan (Zen) meditation on “Silence Observation” and “ānāpāna sati”.
     
  • In July, sent the Sangha members to visit Osho Meditation center in India.
     
  • In August, conducted seven days Chan (Zen) meditation on “Silence Observation” and “ānāpāna sati”.
     
  • In September, Myanmar Venerable Binnui Soe Tha Sayadaw came to Ling Jiou Mountain for Vassāvāsa (Rain Retreat Meditation: Vassa is an annual three months retreat tradition in Theravāda Buddhism. Three months period is determined by lunar calendar, usually begin in July and end in September. During Vassa monk remain in monastery and go out only when necessary. Laypeople come to the monastery to offer food and other necessary items. Laypeople give up eating meat, drinking alcohol and smoking during vassa).
     
  • In September, Turkish Samanyolu TV came to Ling Jiou Mountain (LJM) for Master Hsin-tao interview, and co-organized seminar with MWR on the issue of “The Impact of Religions on Human and Society”. The participants in this seminar were respected religious teachers and leader from all major religions such as Catholic, Christianity, Taoism, Mount Cult, etc. This event was broadcasted in Middle East, Central Asia, North Africa, Europe and other regions.
     
  • In September, went to Australia for the propagation of the dhamma, and Master Hsin-tao was invited to participate in Sydney “A Millennium Night of Religious Collaboration”.
     
  • In November, conducted ten days Chan (Zen) meditation on “Silence Observation” and “ānāpāna sati”.
     
  • In November, assisted the Taipei City Government and Daan District Officers to organize the first “World Religions Expo”, which was opened for the public on 9th December.
     
  • In December, led the Sangha members to Nepal for pilgrimage.
