Sages Meeting: Spiritual Master Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar meets with Venerable Hsin Tao at LJM

A meeting between two masters with great vows! Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, an internationally renowned spiritual master from India, began his Asian tour and arrived in Taiwan on March 12th. On the evening of the 13th, he specially invited Venerable Hsin Tao, Founding Abbot of the Ling Jiou Mountain Buddhist Society (LJM), to his hotel. The two long-time friends, who have been working diligently in the field of love and peace, briefly met and discussed their current focus on global ecology. The two wise men embraced each other, exchanged smiles, and understood each other without words, demonstrating their deep friendship.

On the 12th, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar held a large-scale event titled "Thousands Meditating Together ~ Meeting Yourself, Creating Goodness" at Taipei Arena, attracting tens of thousands of people to attend and pay their respects. During his address at the event, he mentioned his friendship with old friend Venerable Hsin Tao. He emphasized that the two share a deep spiritual connection and can communicate without the need for unnecessary words. One awakened being can always recognize another awakened being, said Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

After 8 years of separation, the two met again on the 13th. Upon seeing each other, they embraced warmly. Venerable Hsin Tao first presented a flower symbolizing wisdom and then offered a calligraphy artwork bearing the words "一心We are one," along with a book titled The Beauty of Religious Artifacts published by the Museum of World Religions. Venerable Hsin Tao mentioned that his current focus is on ecological efforts, particularly in Myanmar, where he is founding a university dedicated to ecological sustainability and peace. He expressed hope for unity in the religious community to collectively safeguard ecological peace. He also invited Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to participate in the upcoming Spiritual Ecology International Forum to be held at the LJM.

The two conversed casually about their shared experiences, enjoying the interaction. Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar mentioned that he is also involved in river restoration and tree planting initiatives in India, echoing Venerable Hsin Tao's commitment to ecological sustainability and love for the planet. They both expressed a shared vision for these endeavors. Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar extended an invitation to Venerable Hsin Tao to attend an upcoming international peace conference and suggested the possibility of meeting again at the COP29 international climate summit in Azerbaijan. Playfully, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar remarked that meeting Venerable Hsin Tao had made his trip to Taiwan complete.

Long-term dedication to love and peace, frequent interaction between the two masters

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar founded the Art of Living Foundation in 1981 to promote the art of living and alleviate poverty in people's lives. Venerable Hsin Tao, on the other hand, is dedicated to promoting "Inner Peace" and "Spiritual Ecology." Both of them acknowledge the importance of awareness and inner peace and have appeared together on numerous international occasions, aiming to jointly promote the ideals of love and peace.

The two met in 1999 at the third “Parliament of World’s Religions" held in Cape Town, South Africa. Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar deeply resonated with the spiritual vision of Master Hsin Tao in founding the Museum of World Religions (MWR), as well as his active involvement in promoting peace through interfaith dialogue, praising Master Hsin Tao's compassion. On November 9, 2001, he came to Taiwan to participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of the MWR. In April 2008, he was again invited to participate in the mass meditation event held at Daan Forest Park. In August 2015, he attended the LJM Water, Land, and Air Dharma Assembly at the Taoyuan Arena. During the 20th anniversary celebration of the MWR in 2021, amidst the global pandemic, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar couldn't personally come to Taiwan, so he specially recorded a video to offer his blessings.

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has invited Master Hsin Tao to participate in events and international conferences organized by him several times, including the inauguration ceremony of the Art of Living Foundation's meditation center in January 2003 in India and the “Spiritual Renaissance and Human Values” international conference, the “Vedic Philosophy (Vedanta) and Buddhism - Promoting Global Peace Conference” in February 2008, and the “World Culture Festival” held in New Delhi, India, in March 2016.
