Vatican Priest Visits LJM to Mark Interfaith Love and Peace

The world is beautiful because of its diversity, and harmonious because of its interconnectedness! Father Paulin Batairwa Kubuya, Under-Secretary of the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue at the Vatican and a long-time friend who has walked alongside Venerable Hsin Tao, shares a journey of love and peace. On March 5th, he visited the Ling Jiou Mountain Buddhist Society (LJM) with Father Lin Chih-Ting, Vice President of Fu Jen Catholic University, and Professor Leo D. Lefebure, Chair of Theology at Georgetown University in the United States, who gave a lecture at Fu Jen University. Experiencing the splendid scenery of mountains, seas, and sky at the Monastery, they joined the LJM masters in praying for world peace and added new insights to interreligious dialogue.

Father Paulin Batairwa Kubuya, who, like Venerable Hsin Tao, has been dedicated to interreligious dialogue for a long time, has repeatedly introduced Venerable Hsin Tao's efforts for world peace at international interfaith conferences. During his time in Taiwan, Father Paulin participated in large-scale events at the LJM and the "World Religion New Year Blessing Ceremony" organized by the World Religions Museum. Together with Taiwanese Buddhist groups, they hosted the "Sixth International Symposium on Buddhist-Christian Dialogue" at the LJM Sheng Shan Temple. The event drew representatives of Buddhists and Christians from 18 countries, nearly a hundred participants, marking another page in the ongoing interreligious exchange.

Father and the group engaged in a dialogue with Venerable Hsin Tao on the plaza outside the LJM Sacred Founding Hall. The Venerable shared his attendance at the Global Religious Leaders Summit held in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, in 2023. After the Pre-COP28 UN Climate Change Conference, Venerable Hsin Tao visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, experiencing the inherent nature of the divine. The Venerable shared his observation that meditation is all about discovering the nature of each individual, which is also known as "formlessness" in Buddhism. Regardless of their religion, all originate from the same source, and everyone is like brothers and sisters. He called for more interreligious exchanges to collectively devote efforts to the preservation of the Earth's ecology from a fundamental spiritual perspective.

Father Lin Chih-Ting endorsed that duality should not be adversarial because it is the relationship between yin and yang that makes the world rich and beautiful. Professor Leo D. Lefebure shared that Georgetown University addresses the ecological crisis from various perspectives such as humanities and technology, approaching it in an interdisciplinary manner. Venerable Hsin Tao agreed with this approach and mentioned that the LJM University of Life and Peace is striving in the same direction.

Guided by Master Hsien Yueh, Executive Director of the Foundation for the World Religions Museum, the group listened to Venerable Hsin Tao's rigorous meditation practice during his seclusion in the Fa Hwa Cave and the history of establishing the LJM. They ascended to the Ocean-view Pavilion, experiencing the natural harmony and the magnificence of the Monastery. The distinguished guests also circled the "Great Golden Pagoda of Light" three times, praying together with the LJM masters for world peace, marking the perfect conclusion to this visit.
